About Being a Brother and Member of Edward Douglass White

Membership in the Knights of Columbus consists of Catholic men of all ages and from all walks of life. We are men of Faith; men inspired for various reasons to join in a common bond of fraternal membership in the Knights of Columbus.

PGK Thom Galvin and DD and PGK Bob Dannemiller receive the Contest of Champions awardOur council, Edward Douglass White (or "EDW" for short) is named in honor of the first Catholic Supreme Court Associate Justice and the name symbolizes the many opportunities for service involvement in the council and community. For example, EDW is locally well-known for providing Thanksgiving meals to the disadvantaged and leads its sister councils throughout Virginia in raising money in its annual "Tootsie Roll Drive" to help the mentally handicapped.

Beyond the lasting personal rewards that accompany the camaraderie of community involvement, belonging to the Edward Douglass White council can be also socially rewarding for members and families. Suffice to say, our council is quite unique within the Knights of Columbus with its generous "country club-like" facilities, operated by our companion organization- the Columbus Club of Arlington.

After driving up EDW's driveway and crossing nearly three acres of park, you will find members relaxing with a beer and a laugh in the Old Council Home. If a beer isn't necessarily your bag, EDW boasts athletic courts (tennis, volley ball, bocce ball, horse shoes and basketball), swimming pools, picnic grounds, and kitchen facilities. Moreover, Edward Douglass White has numerous clubs within our club (Retirees, Golf, Fishing, Ladies-U-Knighted, and others), as well as sports teams, like softball and bowling. We even have a Summer Camp for the kiddies! In sum, EDW offers something for everyone and every age.

Whatever your interests and motivation may be, the EDW membership welcomes you. Get as involved as you like and bring the whole family, too. Join us and discover what being a Knight can do for you, your family, the community, EDW and the Knights of Columbus.
