Our Council Home
Thanks to the vision of our Brothers before us, EDW today enjoys what may be the most unique and impressive Council Home in the country. This old estate is a local treasure and sits on one of the highest points in Arlington County. When built, it's unique construction and sheer size were surely impressive. Although old and in need, the home still retains it's usefulness and glory. To learn more about our home keep an eye on the History Project Website.

 DirectTV and the Sunday NFL Ticket
We will have the Sunday NFL Ticket for all NFL games -- up to 14 out-of-market games every Sunday. There are six televisions available: three in the bar, one in the Kelly room, an done each in the two front rooms. No Council or Club funds were used to pay for NFL Ticket. Please see Jim Savarese if you wish to contribute to defray the cost.
Sunday Football Specials
Sunday and Monday nights in the Council Home Bar will again be featuring delicious fare for football fans to enjoy. Be sure to be there for the first two hours of every game when we will be serving up old favorites and sure-to-be new favorites. |
Golden Tee in the Back Bar

There's some new entertainment options at the Council Home. Play the popular, full-sized arcade version of Golden Tee golf. Or, if golf isn't your cup, how about something less athletic, like the new bartop video game, with options like trivia and chess.

 New Papal Portrait Hangs in Council Home
Pope Benedict XVI (Joseph Ratzinger)
The Council's new portrait of Pope Benedict was unveiled at EDW's 83rd Anniversary celebration on May 23rd, 2006.
The portrait was painted and donated by E.D.W. member A.J. Valinote. He is a 1993 graduate of Marymount University's Graphic Design Program and has worked as a professional illustrator and artist.
In late 2005 the Council membership began to work towards acquiring a picture of the new Pope. A.J. offered his time and brush to paint a portrait for display in the Council Home. At that time, quality photographs, or source material, of the Holy Father were limited. A.J. eventually contacted the Vatican directly for the image he worked from. The result is the 20" x 24" acrylic painting shown here. (click on the image for a larger view)
The portrait was completed in early May and EDW immediately looked into framing options. A local business, Art and Frame of Falls Church, generously donated the material and professional services. The craftsmanship is evident in the lovely gold frame. Owner Tom Gittens is a McLean High School graduate and is active in the local community.
