Fall 2008 - Knights to play in the Tuesday Night C-2 League
For the Fall 2008 season, starting August 18th, the Knights are scheduled to play in the Tusday night C-2 league. We are always looking for people interested in playing. Any interested parties, please contact Charlie Boone at cboone@adirondacksolutions.com
Tournament (night 2) - Knights take the Championship
Knights squared off against D.C. Associates needing to win twice to secure the title. First Final Game Knights scored three runs in the top of the first to put on a little pressure. DC came back to score 6 in to bottom of the first. In the second inning, we scored three more and held them scoreless to square things up. And in the third, we plated 4 to their 3. After being shut out in the fourth, we gave up 4 to find ourselves down 1 going into the fifth. In the fifth, our bats came alive. The first seven guys to the plate all scored, so we jumped ahead 17-11. Our defense held on for a 17-14 victory, setting up a winner-take-all champship game. Muff went 4-4, scoring three times. Charlie and Jorge went 3-4, scoring three times each. Wyatt also went 3-4, scoring once. Championship Game Riding the momentum from the first game, the Knights rolled over DC in the Championship game. Offense and defense were clicking as the Knights did not allow more than one run in any inning. With two runs in the first, 6 in the second, three in the third and two in the 4th, the Knights closed out the game and the league title with a convincing 13-3 victory. Muff went 3-3 and scored three times. Wyatt and CJ scored twice and went 2-3.
Tournament (night 2) - Game 4 - Loser's bracket final
Starting off the final night of the tournament, the Knights were in the Loser's bracket in a must-win game against Excitable Boys with a trip to the finals on the line. As had been our custom, we started off slowly. but some pretty solid defense kept us in the game. Down 2-4 going into the bottom of the 5th, we finally woke up. We scored 9 runs in the inning and kept batting long enough for the time limit to expire. The 12-4 victory sent us to the tournament finals against underfeated D.C. Associates. Danny went 3-3 scoring each time. Wyatt also went 3-3, scoring once.
Tournament (night 1) - Game 3 vs D.C. Associates
After losing two at the end of the regular season, the Knights were looking for a little revenge against D.C. Associates. However, despite a 5-run third inning, the offense just couldn't keep pace. We dropped the game 8-11, and found ourselves in the losers bracket heading into night 2).
Tournament (night 1) - Game 2 vs. Humble Flies
Game 2 pitted Knights (#2 seed) against Humbe Flies (#3 seed). Again, we got off to a slow start, falling in a early 8-run deficit. But we came back with four runs in the third to cut the deficit in half, 4-8. We headed into the 5th down 11-4, but posted 6 that inning to pull within 1. After giving up two in the top of the 6th, we came back to score three runs in the bottom of the 6th to pull out a 14-13 victory. DJ was 3-4 with 2 runs scored, including the game-winner. Manny also went 3-3, scoring once. The victory set up a winner's bracket game against D.C. Associates for a trip to the finals.
2008 Summer Tournament (night 1) - Game 1
Knights (#2 seed) faced off against Greenbrier (#7 seed) in the opening game of the tournament. We started off a little slowly, but found our rhythm in the late innings, plating 6 runs in the 4th and 3 in 5t to take an 11-5 victory. Manny, Muff and Eddie scroed twice and Jorge scored three times.
Week 5 Makeup - Knights finish Regular Season in Second
In the Week 5 makeup against D.C. Associates, the Knights were looking for a sweep to claim first place in the league and top seed in the tournament. Unfortunately, the bats were just not cooperating. We struggled in each game to get on the board, and wound up dropping both, 4-11 and 2-11. On the bright side, we completed the regular season in second place with a 14-4 mark, are are the #2 seed going in to the post-season tournament.
Week 8 - 2 more victories
Knights faced oss in week 8 against Greenbrier. Offense was cerainly on display as the Knighs posted two big victories. Game 1 was 20-16, and all both the offense and defense was clicking in game 2 with a 27-4 victory. These victories leave the Knights in second place, 2 games behind D.C. Associates going into the final (makeup) games.
Week 7 - Payback
The Knights faced Excitable Boys in week 7, looking for some payback from last week's loss. We extracted our revenge, taking game 1 24-14, and holding back a late charge to win game 2 19-18.
Week 6 - Knights Split
Knights faced off against Excitable Boys in week 6. Knights jumped out big in game 1 while winning 24-13. Unfortunately, in game 2, things did not quite go our way and we wound up taking one on the chin, losing 12-15.
Week 5 – Back with a Bang
A three-week layoff (courtesy of a rainout, a bye and the Memorial Day Holiday) did not appear to have any lingering effects as the Knights returned to action with two big wins over Humble Flies: 23 – 7 and 29 – 12. Game 1 started off strong with PGK Kenny Goss throwing a 4 strike-out performance that kept the Flies off balance and off the scoreboard until the 4th inning. Meanwhile, the top of the Knights batting order took over with Sun, Chris Campbell, and DJ accounting for over half the runs by all going 4-4 and coming around to score each time. Game 2’s defensive gem was turned in by Evan “Spiderman” Farley who was not letting anything by him at third. Evan also went 4-for-4 at the plate, scoring 4 runs. Every batter got in on the action, scoring at least one run. We also officially announce that Chris Dour came out of “retirement” to go 5-for-6, scoring 4 runs (though rumor has it he’s putting himself on the IR). Special props also have to go to Jorge, who got injured in his 3rd at-bat, came up next time with two out in the bottom of the 4th, and stroked a 3-run home run to avoid having to run the bases.
Week 4 - Washout
Mother Nature exerted her influence this weekend, washing out this week's games against DC Associates. Make-up date is TBA.
Week 3 - Winning Streak Continues
The Knights extended their winning streak by sweeping both games over Friendly Fire, 12-11 and 14-10. PGK Kenny Goss took a Friday night off from the Council Home and was the winning pitcher in game 1.
Week 2 - Bats come alive as Knights take 2
Offense was certainly on display as the Knights swept Friday night's doubleheader against Greenbrier. In game one, the bottom half of the line-up really came through, plating 13 of the 20 runs in a 20-11 victory. Strong performances were put up by Eddie in right field, who went four-for-four with four runs scored and Evan with solid play at 3rd and who also went four-for-four with two runs scored. (And see, CJ, I went all the way through the description without commenting that you struck out looking).Game two started off strong, sending 13 guys to the plate and scoring 9 in the bottom of the first inning. DJ's pitching and timely defense, including a couple of double plays held Greenbreier in check. Dave's double in the bottom of the 5th brought Manny home and closed out the game for an 18-7 victory. Manny went four-for-four with three runs scored and DJ went three-for four with three runs scored.
Week 1: Knights Split Their Opener
4/19 Game 1 vs. EnergyThe season started off strong on a gorgeous Spring night. Batting in the top of the first, the first 8 Knights to the plate all reached base safely and came home to score. Unfortunately, some season-open rust showed and our fielding and subsequent base-running lacked a little polish. We came back in the top of the 5th to take the lead, but couldn’t quite hang on. Final: Energy 15, Knights 14 Kudos to Dave Dziok who went 3 for 3 with 3 runs scored. 4/19 Game 2 vs. EnergyWe bounced back in game 2. Down 4-6 going into the bottom of the 3rd, we sent all ten Knights to the plate, scoring 7, capped off with CJ’s grand slam – the season’s first home run. Our defense stiffened, allowing Energy only one more run in the next two innings, while tacking on 7 more of our own – resulting in the season’s first win. Final: Knights 18, Energy 7 Kudos go to CJ, with the big bat and some pretty solid play at second. Also to Jorge for going 3 for 3 with 2 runs scored and some solid defense in left field.
